I'm not sure what you mean - we never had a feature for streaming the lossless files on the old system. Can you give me a link and some more info?

I think OP may have meant that many of the Grateful Dead AUD recordings that up until today had been available as downloads (including lossless) are now available only as streaming mp3's. Not all, but it looks like more than half. Just for example, the June 9, 1977 recording by Rob Bertrando,
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-06-09.akg-bertrando.winters.26450.sbeok.shnf
which I downloaded a few days ago is now streaming only.

I hope this is just some problem with the changeover, not some new policy.

I see - can you give me any more examples or is that the only one?

More examples? OK. The "streaming only" auds are endemic, and I can't recall seeing even one before The Change, but for examples that I downloaded in the past few days (I was on a '77 binge, starting at 5/7/77) but are now streaming only:

http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-05-07.rolfe.weiner.6021.sbeok.shnf
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-05-08.maizner.hicks.5002.sbeok.shnf
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-05-09.aud.maizner.vernon.8036.sbeok.shnf
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-05-12.aud.clugston.6484.sbeok.shnf
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-05-26.aud.vernon.18746.sbeok.shnf
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-06-04.bertrando.goodbear.3417.sbeok.shnf
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-06-08.bertrando-Hollwein.winters.26342.sbeok.shnf
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-06-09.akg-bertrando.winters.26450.sbeok.shnf
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-10-29.maizner.vernon.8035.sbeok.shnf
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-11-04.moore.jupile-weiner.15208.sbeok.shnf

Only the following single aud from that period is available in current download formats (i.e. individual shn tracks or lossy):
http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-05-28.moore.minches.18439.sbeok.shnf

Other years appear less hard hit. I was just going thrugh the auds of 1983, and they were all downloadable until:
http://www.archive.org/details/gd83-04-19.wise.miller.21922.sbeok.shnf
http://www.archive.org/details/gd83-04-25.sennheiser.dodd.9763.sbeok.shnf
Those seem to be the only two "stream only" auds before mid-May, out of 20-25 auds.
I also know I found more than one in 1978 and didn't look far.

I forgot to mention that this sort of survey is much easier to do from the old-style yearly summary page such as:
http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php?collection=etree&cat=Grateful%20Dead%3A%201983
than it is from the new style, which doesn't give info on recording details like aud/sbd, etc.

I think this has been confirmed as a bug and it will get fixed in the next few days. Please bear with us. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for the detailed posts helping us identify the problem!

Thanks for verifying it's a bug and not a policy -- given the history of the SBDs, we had been a bit worried. We realize bugs are inevitable and take time to fix. Plenty to do in the meanwhile -- 1983 seems largely bug-free.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for the detailed posts helping us identify the problem!

A notice was posted on a few threads yesterday, but just noticed this one didn't have it- that bug is apparently fixed now.

Forum: etree Subject: Create Your Own "Feature for Streaming the Lossless"

Three simple steps to creating your own "feature for streaming the lossless files:"

1. Upload a show in lossless format.

2. On the bottom of your "Edit item" page, set the show to "Allow only non-lossy derivatives for files in this item."

3.
a) Using the lossless file download links on your show's details page, create an m3u file.
b) Upload the m3u file to the ftp server.
c) Go back to your "Edit item" page and use the drop-down corresponding to the m3u file to select "VBR M3U."
d) Use the "Stream" link in your VLC player to listen losslessly to your show.

Example show featuring lossless "Stream" link: Bloodstock 2008 band Blasphemous Creation - Shadows of Evil

Any questions? Here's the place to post 'em!
